Seminar Programme

Following the success of last year's programme, PlayFair 2012 will again host a series of free seminars and briefings designed to bring you right up to speed with the latest in best practice, design and selection. 

Put together by the API, the seminars are a great way of expanding your knowledge of what works best - and there's plenty of opportunity for questioning the experts!

What is the Landfill Communities Fund and how does it work?

Finding funding, key funding facts, "Object D" - public amenities, project examples, and useful information.

Speaker:  Susan Allred - Senior Registrar, ENTRUST (Landfill Communities Fund)

Sue AllredSue has worked at ENTRUST for two and half years and heads up the Registrations Team. The Team enrols new Environmental Bodies, ensuring that they meet the requirements set out in the Regulations. The main focus of their work is on all aspects of project registration, which includes advising on the eligibility of projects and obtaining sufficient information to be satisfied that a project is compliant with the Regulations. Sue was also instrumental in helping to set up the new ENTRUST On-Line (EOL), which should make the enrolment and registration process easier for customers to use. Previously, Sue worked at the Land Registry in the role of HR Advisor, where she assisted in building a HR system for 26 offices in England and Wales with 8500 users.

Gill Jolly explains the fine line between completing funding applications and launching a successful bid for play space funding, as well as providing the audience with useful pointers, tips and advice.

Gill JollyGill Jolly is a Director of Achieve Consultants Ltd, a fundraising and management consultancy, working with charities, not-for profits and statutory organisations across the UK and beyond. She has been involved in professional fundraising since 1984 as a fundraiser, manager, director and trainer of fundraisers and support teams. She left a senior role with one of the top 10 income generation charities early in 2000 to move into consultancy. She has a great wealth of experience in funding applications and one of her biggest successes in recent times was a £1.8M grant! She is a regular speaker at national and regional conferences on a range of fundraising and related topics.

Games4Life, Legacy and Beyond…

A presentation on the latest initiatives from the Change4Life project, including sporting activity for children, both in and out of school, getting children engaged with active play and how the London 2012 Olympic legacy might contribute towards healthier generations.

Speaker:  Malcolm Fawcett - Department of Health, Change4Life Partnerships Team.

Active Play for All Ages
 
Len will present the results of three studies to identify what environments will stimulate more physically active play and how to encourage more energetic play. He will explore how physically active play has a profound influence on brain development, particularly amongst early-years children.

Speaker:   Dr. Len Almond FRSA - BHF National Centre - Physical Activity and Health

Len AlmondDr. Len Almond has been at Loughborough since 1979 and set up the BHF National Centre to translate research into practice to enable practitioners to develop informed and intelligent practice. To achieve this, the National Centre has developed high quality resources and training programmes for all ages throughout the life-course and all settings to promote purposeful physical activity to improve health and wellbeing.  He was a member of the Technical Committee that reviewed the evidence for the Chief Medical's Officer's report Start Active Stay Active.
